SNAKE GOD – Japanese wood carving serpent (Dealer: titcoRet) – Worshipped white snake as the messenger of the gods (‘kenzoku’) like ‘Benzaiten’ goddess of Buddhism or ‘Ugajin’ god (Saraswati) of Shinto, etc., as always a familiar existence for the people in Japan as an object of faith. Refined carving. Showa period, Pre-1950. Some deterioration as seen. Base is not attached. approx. H 8.8cm (3.46in), W 11cm (4.33in), D 10.5cm (4.13in)
