STONE MONKEY (Dealer: hotoke) – Votive seated stone monkey sculpture with spread legs in the ‘gassho’ praying pose with folded hands for the safe childbirth based on the unique local folk belief seen around east central Saitama prefecture, Japan. Showa period, 20th century. Some aged damage as seen, but still lovely enough as is. Quite a rare find. (*”Red sun” of the photo#6 is not attached with this piece.)
