STONE IDATEN (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Edo period, 19th century, Japan. Quite a refined and rare stone carving *Idaten statue once dedicated to the workshop by blacksmith or swordsmith as the craftsman related with iron, in sooty condition as is, with damage at ‘kabuto’ (helmet) as seen. approx. H 48cm (18.89in)

*Idaten – Indian deity Skanda (Swift-footed guardian deity), the son of Siva and general of his army, who became a protector of the Dharma in Buddhism.
