REDESIGNED KARATSU KATAKUCHI MIZUSASHI (Dealer: misakadou) – Excavated Karatsu pottery ware ‘katakuchi’ (spout bowl) with such superb “re-design” of ‘yobitsugi’ (traditional Japanese restoration substituting the fragments of other broken pieces for the missing parts) applied to ‘mizusashi’ water jar of tea ceremony utensil attached with lacquer lid (with broken grip) by the former owner as a connoisseur. Early Edo period, 17th century, Japan.
As the highlight, although ‘yobitsugi’ is usually based on the traditional method substituting the fragments from the same kiln for the missing pieces, its substitute pieces are totally different type (but Karatsu) from the original, as an aesthetics of restoration.
