Kyoto Fushimi clay doll, White snake with Hoju (Dealer: Sezuan antiques & art) – Kyoto’s local doll called ‘Fushimi Ningyo’ (Fushimi Doll) made for souvenir or votive offering. The motif of “white snake twining around ‘Hoju’ (Precious orb)” believed to have good luck with money from the old time. Although such animal deities including fox or wolf besides white snake were once persecuted because of “The Ordinance Distinguishing Shinto and Buddhism” (1868), those are still deeply worshipped by the people in Japan today.
