FROG GOD OF HIYOSHI SHRINE (Dealer: titcoRet) – Wood carving frog (toad) okimono dedicated to Hiyoshi shrine that uniquly enshrines frog as a messenger of kami (god), Taisho-Showa period, early 20th century, Japan. Carved from a stump, and rugged back is well-expressed as well. Branded with “Hiyoshi” and sculptor’s name at the backside. Smoothened glossy face texture rubbed by the worshiper’s hands for long years. Expected deterioration due to age as is. approx. L 28.5 x W 25 x H 18cm (11.22 x 9.84 x 7.08in)
